Digital PCR Twinning at INMI Spallanzani in Rome
On 8–9 October 2026, the National Institute for Infectious Diseases “Lazzaro Spallanzani” IRCCS (INMI) hosted the second EURL-PH-ERZV twinning activity, welcoming participants from Greece (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) and Germany (Robert Koch Institute) for two days of hands-on training and knowledge exchange.
The twinning, entitled “Nucleic Acid Quantification Methods with a Focus on Digital PCR”, combined theoretical sessions with practical laboratory work, covering both nanoplate-based and droplet-based digital PCR (dPCR) technologies and their applications in the field of viral pathogens.
Guided by researchers from INMI's Laboratory of Virology, with contributions from industry specialists, participants gained practical experience with laboratory workflows, data analysis and interpretation. The sessions also provided opportunities to discuss challenges, share experiences and learn from different approaches.
Bringing laboratories together to share expertise and develop practical skills is at the heart of the EURL-PH-ERZV twinning programme. The exchange will continue beyond the training through follow-up activities and ongoing contact between the participating laboratories.
EURL-PH-ERZV would like to thank the INMI team for organising and hosting the twinning, and all participants and contributors for making it a valuable opportunity for learning and exchange.
