Twinning visit at the Public Health Agency of Sweden

Twinning visit regarding Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and bioinformatics, Stockholm, 11–13 November 2025.

Hosted by the Public Health Agency of Sweden (PHAS), this twinning visit brought colleagues together for three days of exchange and practical learning.

The 2025 visit offered an opportunity for colleagues from Norway, Italy and Bulgaria to work side by side through shared learning and hands-on sequencing practice, laying the foundation for continued collaboration within the network.

The programme focused on Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) of human monkeypox virus (MPXV) using Oxford Nanopore Technologies. Participants engaged in key steps of the sequencing workflow, including sample handling, sequencing procedures and initial data analysis, supported by discussions on common challenges and practical solutions.

The visit strengthened peer-to-peer learning and contributed to improved sequencing capacity within the participating laboratories. It also set the stage for continued cooperation, including follow-up discussions to support implementation of the methods practiced during the exchange and to identify additional areas for shared expertise.

Information about the opening of applications for the 2026 twinning visit will be announced through the EURL-PH-ERZV communication channels.
