This factsheet summarise how some adolescents view the use of, exposure to, health aspects of and flavouring of snus.

The Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services (SBU) has conducted a systematic review of the available knowledge on possible associations between the use of e-cigarettes or snus and tobacco smoking. We summarise the most important results below.

Smokeless tobacco products must meet set product requirements when provided to consumers on the Swedish market. For example, portion-packed tobacco for oral use, snus, must contain at least 20 portions.

The use of nicotine products, such as nicotine pouches and e-cigarettes, has increased among adolescents.

Smoking is unevenly distributed in the population, and there are significant differences between various groups based on education, income, and employment. The use of nicotine pouches and e-cigarettes is increasing among the population and is most common among individuals aged 16–29 years.

This report is a compilation of existing knowledge about the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine products in terms of the extent of their use, the health risks and the social costs.

Daily cigarette smoking has decreased in Sweden since the 1980s. This decrease coincides with the broad tobacco prevention efforts that have been carried out during the same period.
