Sexual and reproductive health and rights

Sexuality and reproduction are important determinants for health. To have control over and decide freely and responsibly on matters related to sexuality, including sexual and reproductive health, free of coercion, discrimination and violence, is a human right. It is also fundamental for people's experience of health and well-being.

Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) cover many different aspects and a vital approach in this broad area is the principle of non-discrimination and equality. Aspects included in SRHR are for example access to health care and knowledge in relation to sexuality, in order for all individuals to be able to take responsibility for their own sexual health, and to be able to avoid situations or actions that could impair health. An example of this is that children and adolescents in schools are offered quality sexuality education in order to be able to make informed choices in relation to their sexuality.

Societal norms on sexuality and gender have an impact on conditions and possibilities for sexual and reproductive health. Hence, it is important to adopt a norm critical approach in the work towards sexual and reproductive health and rights on equal terms for the entire population.

Our mission
