The Swedish work on antimicrobial resistance is in line with the Action Plan accompanying the EU strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) – Action 2: contain antimicrobial resistance, under policy area Health.

Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being (NDPHS) is the coordinator of the policy area Health. Sweden, represented by the Public Health Agency, is lead country and chair of the Antimicrobial Resistance Expert Group (AMR-EG) within the partnership.

During 2015 NDPHS adopted a new strategy and action plan in which the Expert Group has set the course for the future AMR work within the partnership countries. This was to a large extent based on a mapping, previously done by the expert group, of central activities, actions and gaps in the AMR work in the member states.

The expert group was responsible for drafting the declaration that was adopted during the 11th Partnership Annual Conference (PAC) held at a ministerial level meeting in November 2015 in Berlin, Germany. Together with the German Federal Ministry of Health and the Robert Koch Institute AMR-EG arranged a side-event on AMR in conjunction with the meeting.
