Impact on health of climate change in Sweden – A risk and vulnerability analysis
ListenClimate change poses a significant risk to human health, both directly and indirectly. This report, Impacts on Health of Climate Change in Sweden, highlights how the changing climate affects health in several ways, from heatwaves and spread of infectious diseases to deteriorating water and air quality.
The risk and vulnerability analysis is based on scientific evidence, government reports and expert assessments, and presents current knowledge of the health impacts Sweden face in a changing climate.
The report presents 14 health risks according risk level, in descending order. For each risk, the following is described:
- Impact on health: exposure, severity, risk areas and risk groups.
- Likelihood: how likely it is that health will be impacted in the near future.
- Vulnerability and coping capacity: a snapshot of Sweden’s vulnerability and ability to manage health risks.
The report can provide useful knowledge support for national authorities and county administrative boards affected by the Ordinance (2018:1428) on government agencies’ climate adaptation. It may also provide support to other national and international stakeholders involved in actions to protect health from the conseqeuneces of climate change.
