The demand for use of combination vaccines in national immunization programs have increased globally during the last years, leading to a vaccine shortage of acellular pertussis (aP) vaccinations. During periods of vaccine shortage, low-dose (dTap-IPV) might be an alternative to the full dose (DTaP-IPV) as a booster for children aged 4-8 years old.
To evaluate the possibility and consequences of replacing full dose vaccines with low dose vaccines for dose 4 against diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis-polio in the Norwegian and Swedish national immunization programs during vaccine shortage, the national agencies have conducted a literature review and published a report.
This report is intended to provide a basis for recommendations regarding changes needed for the national immunization programs during periods of vaccine shortage in Norway and Sweden. The report targets primarily the Public Health Agency of Sweden, Norwegian Institute of Public Health, County Councils, vaccine experts and the Medical Products Agency.
