Isolat av Streptococcus pneumoniae verifieras och typas därefter serologiskt genom precipitation i gel med en panel av antisera. Indikation: Invasiva isolat av Streptococcus pneumoniae och isolat med nedsatt känslighet för penicillin (PcG MIC>0.5) ingår i det nationella mikrobiologiska övervakningsprogrammet. Serotyp påvisas genom precipitation i gel med en panel av specifika antisera. Serotypning utförs även vid epidemiologiska frågeställningar.

Sjukdomsstatistik över infektion/bärarskap med pneumokocker med nedsatt känslighet för penicillin G (PNSP). Statistiken sammanställs i en årsrapport, samt per län/region, utifrån ålder, kön, fall per vecka, trend och smittland.
