Under 2023 har WHO deklarerat att covid-19 inte längre utgör ett internationellt akut hot mot människors hälsa. Folkhälsomyndighetens uppdrag, att verka för god och jämlik hälsa i hela befolkningen är mer angelägen än på länge.

Under 2018 har riksdagen antagit ett förnyat folkhälsopolitiskt mål med ett tydligare fokus på jämlik hälsa: att skapa samhälleliga förutsättningar för en god och jämlik hälsa i hela befolkningen och sluta de påverkbara hälsoklyftorna inom en generation.
